Common Knee Injuries

Every year, we take on many personal injury claims involving knee injuries. Some of the most common diagnoses include:

  • Kneecap Fractures: The bone most often fractured in an accident is the patella (kneecap). This is an extremely painful injury and will require you to rest and not put weight on your knee. You may need to wear a knee brace for a period of time, and this injury often requires physical therapy.
  • Anterior or Posterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL & PCL) Injuries: Accidents can cause injuries to the ACL and PCL. The ACL & PCL are located in the center of your knee and connect the femur to the tibia. The ACL allows for rotation of the knee and forward movement while the PLC controls backward movement. Injuries to these ligaments are graded on a scale from 1 to 3. A Grade 3 injury is a complete tear of the ligament and typically requires surgery to repair. You will need months of rest and physical therapy to recover.
  • Collateral Ligament (MCL & LCL) Injuries: The MCL connects your femur to the tibia and provides stability to the inner knee while the LCL connects the femur to the fibula and provides stability to the outer knee. These injuries often occur when the knee is forced sideways, into an unusual movement. Like an ACL injury, these are graded 1 through 3, with a Grade 3 being a full tear. Many of these injuries heal without surgery. However, depending on the type and extent of the tear, you may need surgery to repair the ligament. If you suffer a ligament tear in the knee, whether it requires surgery or not, talk with a knee injuries lawyer in Miami about your right to compensation.
  • Tendon Injuries: The tendons in your knees connect the muscles to the bone. If a tendon is over-stretched or torn, you may be in immense pain and have difficulty moving your knee. A fully torn tendon may require surgery to repair.
  • Meniscus Injuries: There are two pieces of cartilage in your knee, each known as a meniscus. These pieces of cartilage can suffer wear over the years and can be injured or torn during a traumatic event, particularly one that twists your knee. Your torn meniscus may heal with rest and pain management, but it also could require surgery.
  • Knee Dislocation: Your knee is a joint and the bones can slip or be shoved out of place. When your knee is dislocated, and physician will need to put the joint back into place, which will be painful. Dislocation can also be accompanied by bone fractures, which can make it more complicated to treat and require a longer recovery time. After a knee dislocation, do not hesitate to call our Miami knee injury attorneys to discuss your rights and legal options.
Let us Fight for Your Right to Compensation

If you suffer a knee injury in an accident that was another person’s fault, call Gerson & Schwartz P.A. right away. We represent individuals injured in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. We will thoroughly investigate the accident that caused your knee injury and gather evidence on your behalf. We will carefully analyze this evidence to determine who was at fault for the accident and who is liable for compensating you for your injuries. In some cases, this is the same party. However, it may also be an employer of the at-fault party.

When we have evidence of the other person or business’s liability, we will pursue compensation through an insurance claim and/or personal injury lawsuit. Through either avenue, we will fight hard for you to receive as much compensation as possible for you:

  • Past, current, and future medical expenses;
  • Lost income;
  • Physical pain and suffering;
  • Mental anguish and emotional distress;
  • Disability;
  • Scarring or disfigurement;
  • Reduced earning capacity; and
  • Reduced quality of life.
